We all know they'll be friends by the end, at least. Knuckles first debuted in Sonic the Hedgehog 3 and briefly acted as a rival to Sonic, which it looks like the film is going to take to the extremes and really push as a part of the story.
Knuckles is, of course, a key character in the Sonic universe, so it's probably no surprise to see him taking up a big role, but it's rare that we see this side of their relationship explored.
